when i slow down
The 14-day Family Yoga Challenge is based on When I Slow Down, a children’s story written by STEPi founder Paul H. Sutherland.
This fantastic book is about a young boy who learns to manage and identify his emotions through the help of different yoga poses. When I Slow Down helps the young reader learn to connect with their mind and body to help gain mastery over their physical and emotional responses to life.

The STEPi Effect
ABOUT STEPi
Squaring the Education Pyramid Institute believes every child deserves the chance to learn, grow, and thrive. In many underserved communities in Africa, resources are scarce, leaving children with limited opportunities. STEPi works to “square the pyramid” by providing books, literacy training, and educational support to the foundation of the system – teachers, parents, and early learners.
By joining this yoga challenge, you’re helping STEPi reach more classrooms, train more educators, and put more books into the hands of children who need them most.
Children at the Forefront
STEPi provides creative, inspiring, engaging, culturally relevant books, literacy programs, and mentorship, ensuring every child can access learning materials that inspire them to dream big and actualize their dream.
Teachers at the Centre
From a grandmother with a few children in her township home, to school systems with thousands of students, STEPi equips educators in Africa with Teaching with Love and Parenting With Love seminars and resources that inspire, and empower them with tools, emotional intelligence strategies, and classroom techniques that create safe, nurturing spaces for happiness, love and learning. We see parents as teachers and teachers as parents.
Parents & Caregivers as Pillars
We offer Parenting With Love resources, helping African caregivers become active partners in their children's education and reinforcing literacy and emotional support at home and the community. Children then feel loved, and happy to live a life of positive values.
Communities at the Top
We connect with informal and formal libraries, schools, individuals and organizations in Africa to create learning ecosystems where resources are shared, sustained, and expanded, closing education gaps one child, one teacher, one book at a time.
